Hield who was originally selected with the sixth pick in the NBA Draft by the New Orleans Pelicans, is no stranger to achievements and accolades. While at The University of Oklahoma, Hield amassed a collection of awards with the most notable being the Naismith College Player of the year (2016) and the John R. Wooden Award for the best college basketball player for the 2015-2016 season; where he averaged 25 points, 5.7 rebounds, two assists per game while leading the nation in three-point shots. Buddy is definitely showing the league that he belongs with the best as he presently ranks 4th among NBA rookies in scoring, 5th in three-point shooting percentage and 7th in both field goal percentage and minutes played. Buddy is presently second in total points scored as a rookie with 775 behind the leader Dario Sarkic, the power forward from Philadelphia who coincidentally won the Rookie of the Month for March for the Eastern Conference.
Buddy is also leading all NBA rookies in three-point shots made with 134 made followed by Jamaal Murray with 105 from the Denver Nuggets. Who could ever forget the shooting display Hield put on to help bring the Sacramento Kings back from 18 points down against the Los Angeles Clippers last month. In case you forgot, here is a gentle reminder of those Buddy Buckets.
Since joining the Sacramento Kings on on February 19th, Hield has scored in double-digits in 17 out of 20 games while matching his career-high of 22 points on two occasions. He is among top NBA players who have won multiple months and the Buddy Hield Rookie Of The Month March 2017 is well deserved. Our research dated back to 1982, we found an impressive list of players who have won every month as a rookie in the past:
Tim Duncan (1997-1998)
Lebron James | Carmelo Anthony (2003-2004)
Blake Griffin (2010-2011)
Damian Lillard (2012-2013)
Karl-Anthony Towns (2015-2016)
Joel Embiid was a surein to win the Rookie of the Year after winning the Rookie of the Month in November, December and January for the Eastern Conference before his season ending injury. As for the rookie of the year possibility for Buddy Hield, it will be a close contest between Hield and Sarkic but we are hoping that Buddy does win!
Congratulations to Buddy Hield Rookie Of The Month March 2017
