The Difference Maker

buddy hield sacramento kings vs oklahoma city thunder 11-7-2017 - The Difference Maker

Sacramento opened the game down 10-0 with just over six minutes remaining.  The offense once again unable to get started early leaving all indications that the Kings would be ran out of the building early.  Buddy Hield would be the difference maker for Sacramento in snapping their seven-game losing streak in front of a faithful home town crowd.

Instant Difference Maker

Buddy Hield checked into the game with 3:45 remaining in the first quarter with a Kings team which was offensively stagnant down and trailing 14-5 early to Oklahoma.  Hield would go on to score the team’s final 5 points of the quarter as OKC extended their lead to 25-10 by the end of the first.  Oklahoma led by as many as 17 points early and Buddy Hield once again proved he was the game’s difference maker scoring 10 points in the second quarter including the team’s first basket on a deep three-point shot to help the Kings surge back against the Thunder.  Fortunately, the Thunder’s offense hit a brick wall as OKC’s Big Three could not buy a basket.  Carmelo Anthony, Russell Westbrook and Paul George all finished with less than 30% shooting from the field which led to just 16 second-quarter points while the Kings scored 32 points to lead 42-41 at halftime.

In the third quarter, veteran Zach Randolph would lead the charge for the Kings scoring at will against OKC Thunder’s Steven Adams to rack up 12 third-quarter points as the Kings held OKC to just 16 points in the quarter.  By the end of the third, the Kings were comfortably up 67-57 as Buddy Hield rested for the duration of the quarter.  It would be a momentary cushion for the Kings as the Thunder would chip away at the lead cutting the deficit down to a single point with 4:29 remaining.  After a quiet second half, Buddy Hield would get his moment once again to be a difference maker.  After sinking a free throw on a technical foul against Carmelo Anthony, Hield would hit a three-point shot to push Sacramento’s lead once again back to 81-76.  In the final two minutes of the game, Hield would collect two key rebounds, record his second steal and dish out an assist on the game’s final points.  If that wasn’t a difference maker then we simply have no idea what a difference maker looks like in the NBA.  Hield finished as the game’s leading scorer with 21 points, 7 rebounds, an assist and 2 steals including lights out shooting hitting 7 of 9 from the field and 4 of 4 from three-point range to help the Kings pull off a 94-86 win at Golden One Center in Sacramento, California.

Key Statistics:  Despite committing 23 turnovers compared to just 14 for the Thunder, the Kings were able to pull off a victory.  Those turnovers would lead to 19 points for the Thunder.  The Kings were out rebounded 55-50.  The difference in this game came down to offensive execution as Sacramento shot 37 of 79 (46.8%) from the field and 9 of 24 (37.5%) from three-point range.  Meanwhile, the Thunder shot 29 of 86 (33.7%) from the field and connected on 10 of 37 (27%) from distance. Up next, the Kings welcome the Philadelphia 76’ers to town on Thursday.  Game time is 10:00pm EST. Be sure to check out the video clips below and share these Buddy Hield Highlights to fellow Buddy Hield Fans in your social network!
