Let’s cut directly to the chase. The Sacramento Kings wanted payback for the way Boogie Cousins treated them in his infamous Return of Boogie to Sacramento where he put up 41 points and collected 23 rebounds in a 114-106 win at Golden 1 Center in late October. Cousins wanted Kings fans to regret that trade and make them miss him even more. Fast forward to December 9th in New Orleans, Buddy and the Kings got their Revenge In The Bayou.
From Reunion to Revenge In The Bayou
From all estimates, there was no way in hell the Kings could have pulled off a win down in New Orleans especially with both Boogie Cousins and Anthony Davis back in the lineup together. Well, both Zach Randolph and Buddy Hield came to play leading the Kings to a huge 116-109 upset win on the road in New Orleans. Sacramento stayed close behind strong play from Z’Bo who led all Kings scorers with 35 points to go along with 13 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. Buddy led a fourth-quarter comeback against his former team including 8 points and a key three-pointer with 36.2 seconds remaining in the fourth to force the game into overtime. Hield was a beast off the bench with 18 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. In overtime, it was all Kings who outscored the Pelicans 14-7 to grab the win.

If you didn’t see it in the highlight clips, the move which Kings’ rookie Frank Mason III put on Pelicans veteran guard J’Rue Holiday, was a key basket in overtime which helped secure the win for the Kings. Mason finished as the Kings’ third leading scorer with 14 points off the bench. J’Rue Holiday is a top defender but what Mason did to him in the clip below should be considered criminal in the Bayou. Why did you do him like that Frank?
Buddy Hield’s play was outstanding connecting on 7 of 12 from the field including 4 of 5 from three-point range with a staggering +21 on the NBA’s +/- player impact chart. Finally, Hield can say that he got Revenge In The Bayou after several unsuccessful games against his former team.
Key Statistics: Sacramento hit 47 of 97 (48.5%) from the field including 13 of 30 (43.3%) from three-point range but sank just 9 of 14 from the free throw line (64.3%).
