The first quarter of tonight’s game was Buddy’s first in the starting rotation for the Sacramento Kings. His insertion should come as no surprise and is reminisce of his time in New Orleans after being inserted into the Pelicans starting lineup before the infamous DeMarcus Cousins trade. The Buddy Hield Washington Wizards Highlights were nothing short of spectacular in the first half as Hield had 18 points including 13 in the first quarter. In the second half, the Wizards focused on Hield and applied defensive pressure on most of Hield’s shot attempts which resulted in 3 key blocked shot attempts, a layup and a three-pointer in the fourth quarter with less than 4 minutes remaining in regulation and a key layup attempt with :52 seconds remaining in overtime which could have brought the Kings to within a basket of the Wizards.

In the end, Buddy would not score again in the second half or the overtime period and finished with 18 points, 5 rebounds and an assist. The Kings are however slowly developing a plan how to use Hield to his strengths but must continue to keep him actively involved. I think the crowd at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento got an opportunity to see what Buddy could bring to the organization and where he needs to improve.
After three quarters, the Kings had a 15 point lead, 97-82 but hit an absolute offensive wall in the fourth quarter and was outscored 34-19 to send the game into overtime. The dynamic backcourt tandem of John Wall and Bradley Beal scored 63 points with Beal leading all scorers for the game with 38 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, a steal and a block while John Wall had 25 points, 4 rebounds, 12 assists and 2 blocked shots. Otto Porter Jr. was a key player for the Wizards with 18 points, 6 rebounds, an assist, 2 steals and a block. Sacramento simply had no answer for these beasts of the east who with their 40th win of the season last night have now moved into second place ahead of the Boston Celtics and trail the Cleveland Cavaliers by just 2.5 games.
This loss for the Kings is a part of the growing process for this organization who have a group of young players who will indeed be contenders in the coming years. In recent games against tough opponents, the Kings built early leads but were unable to sustain them late into the game. Heartbreaking losses to the San Antonio Spurs and Utah Jazz after similarly building sizeable leads. Willie Cauley-Stein had 20 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal while Arron Afflalo was tied with Buddy Hield as the team’s second leading scorer with 18 points.
