Buddy Hield San Antonio Spurs Highlights Game 3

Head Coach Greg Popovich elected to rest 2 of their best starters Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge, who logged max minutes in four straight games.  It wouldn’t hurt that there is a big matchup against Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma Thunder coming up on Thursday night.  This was exactly the kind of news a young team like the Kings would take advantage of as they came out with a vengeance early in the first quarter.  The Kings looked consistent and completely in charge as shot after shot dropped, shooting over 60% in the first and building an early double-digit lead.  Buddy would enter the game with just 43 seconds remaining but would begin the Buddy Hield San Antonio Spurs Highlights less than 60 seconds later at the start of the second quarter nailing a 15-foot jumper.  Buddy would finish with 11 points, 2 rebounds and an assist in just 18 minutes of play and is his best game for the season against the Spurs.  His previous two games in December and January while in a Pelicans uniform, he would score 5 points in each game.  Hield has now scored in double figures in five of his past six games and sits in the top 5 in this year’s NBA Rookie Ladder.

The first quarter would end with the Kings leading 37-15 and seemingly on their way to a huge upset.  The Spurs slowly clawed their way back and were able to be within reach with a 63-48 halftime score and most importantly, a defense which limited Sacramento to just 26 points in the second quarter.  At the start of this game, the Spurs went with a small three guard lineup and inserted journeyman David Lee at the power forward position who played brilliantly.  Lee shot 8 of 9 (88.9%) from the field and finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

By the start of the second half, the Spurs were playing like a team possessed as they mounted the largest comeback of Head Coach Gregg Popovich’s tenure in San Antonio and ultimately helped to secure the team’s 50th win of the season in dramatic comeback style.  The most astounding accomplishment for the Spurs in tonight’s win is that in 20 years of being head coach, this will mark the 19th straight year that the Spurs have won at least 50 games in a season.  The Spurs were led tonight by 39-year old NBA veteran Manu Ginobili with 19 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals and was a defensive nightmare for the Kings.  Reserve ace Patty Mills had a double-double with 17 points, 1 rebound, 10 assists and a steal including hitting 4 of 6 (66.7%) from three-point range.  Danny Green was a huge factor in the second half and scored 14 points, 2 rebounds and drained 4 of 8 (50%) from three-point range.  In the fourth quarter, the Spurs had already shut down the offense of the Kings limiting them to just 18 points and no opportunity to come back late.

Key Statistics:  The Kings bench were outscored by the Spurs 64-48.  Three-point shooting was a huge difference as the Spurs sank 14-29 (48.3%) compared to just 7-19 (36.8%) for the Kings. Rebounds were basically even with the Spurs winning that battle 43-42.  In tonight’s game, Buddy was much better with ball security as he committed just 1 turnover as Patty Mills stole the ball from behind late in the second quarter but did not stop the Buddy Hield San Antonio Spurs Highlights. Up next, the Kings return home to host the Washington Wizards Friday night at 10:30pm.
