Buddy Hield Minnesota Timberwolves Highlights featured a New Orleans Pelicans team which jumped out to an early lead and looked to repeat their performance after a convincing win over the Atlanta Hawks last night. The Pelicans led by as many as 12 points early in the 1st quarter and it seemed like the Pels were about to put Minnesota away quickly. However, the Timberwolves had other plans as they went on multiple runs to pull within two points and eventually build a 7 point lead. The Pelicans were relentless in their attack led by Anthony Davis who was unstoppable, scoring at will against Karl-Anthony Towns all over the floor. Davis scored 45 points while collecting 10 rebounds along with 2 steals and a block to lead all scorers while
Terrence Jones once again provided support the Pelicans needed, scoring 17 points while collecting 7 rebounds. Both players shot lights out as Davis hit 63% of his attempts while Jones shot a blistering 70% from the field. Both teams had 4 players in double figures but the missing piece for the Timberwolves was Andrew Wiggins, who shot a horrid 2 of 19 and simply couldn’t buy a bucket for the night. The Pelicans are in the middle of the biggest turnarounds in team history winning 6 out of their last 8 games and winning four in a row since JRue Holiday has returned to the rotation. Holiday was previously averaging over 19 points per game, however tonight he managed just 7 points while dishing out 8 assists.
Zach LaVine, the NBA’s slam dunk champion, was the only standout for the T’Wolves as he scored 26 points with several emphatic dunks on the night. New Orleans built a 20-plus point lead during the 3rd quarter and never looked back. Kris Dunn, the Providence standout drafted with the 5th pick ahead of Buddy Hield, played for 26 minutes and was key on defense with 4 steals while scoring 6 points and collecting 4 rebounds. Dunn has utilized his defensive talents to achieve more playing time and the team expects his offense to pick up as the season goes on. At one point during the season, Dunn was inserted into the starting lineup for Ricky Rubio but is coming off the bench once again to support the team.
Buddy Hield had over 12 minutes playing time tonight, a slight increase over his previous two games combined. He attempted 7 shots total but failed to connect on any of them. Hield had good looks at the basket but the shot is simply not dropping, Hield checked in during garbage time to the sounds of stadium cheers and chants of ‘Buddy…Buddy’ trying to encourage the young man to continue pushing and not give up. The entire Smoothie King Center wanted Buddy to score even as the final seconds counted down, but it simply would not happen. He had numerous good looks but the shot was not falling all night. Final score: Pelicans 117 – Hawks 96
