Buddy Hield Los Angeles Lakers Highlights started competitively with the New Orleans Pelicans keeping close with the young upstart Los Angeles Lakers. Head Coach Alvin Gentry switched back to a bigger lineup because of the size of the Laker squad who starts Timofey Mozgov at center. The game featured multiple spurts by both teams in the first half which featured Buddy Hield hitting a buzzer beater to end the 2nd quarter.
But disaster struck in the 3rd quarter when Anthony Davis landed awkwardly and left for the locker room. The Lakers took no prisoners and opened up a lead of 15 points. Before Davis’ sudden departure, the Pelicans remained competitive with both teams exchanging leads. The building went into complete silence as it watched their star player Anthony Davis lay on the hardwood in pain. But the damage was already done as the Lakers took advantage before Davis’ return to the lineup late in the 3rd quarter.
Buddy Hield caught fire in this game taking advantage of several defenders on beautiful driving layups. Coach Gentry adjusted Hield’s role in the 3rd quarter allowing him to control the ball more which made an immediate difference. Hield played his best game of the year scoring literally at will against defenders and playing with confidence. Buddy, who was drafted 6th by the Pelicans originally worked out for the Lakers prior the 2016 NBA Draft. Kobe Bryant publicly expressed his interest in the organization drafting Hield but ultimately the Lakers took Brandon Ingram who was matched up on several occasions against Hield. Buddy Hield definitely won this matchup, scoring at will against Ingram who finished the game with just 10 points and 4 assists.
In the end, The Lakers pulled away to rout the Pelicans 126 – 99 led by balanced scoring by Jordan Clarkson (23), D’Angelo Russell (22), Lou Williams (21) and Nick Young (15). For the Pelicans, Anthony Davis led all scorers with 34 points while collecting 8 rebounds and 2 blocks. Buddy Hield was the Pelicans second leading scorer with 18 points and shot 8-13 from the field including 1-4 from the 3 point line. If Buddy can improve his 3 point shooting, you can easily see games with him scoring 20 points or more. His shot selection must improve and offensively the team must run better set plays for the youngster. As we mentioned in our last blog post, the foundation is already set and Buddy got extended playing time tonight over 26 minutes and he was solid again.

The New Orleans Pelicans drop to 1-9 after this tough loss but at least Anthony Davis remains healthy. Lakers move to 6-4 and officially won bragging rights after a convincing rout of the Pels. Will this display by Buddy Hield prove to the Pelicans organization that this kid deserves increased playing time and more control of the ball ?
