Buddy Hield Charlotte Hornets Highlights had a late start as Buddy Hield saw limited game action registering only 5 minutes of playing time. Hield checked into the game in the second quarter scoring just 2 points on an acrobatic fast break layup while attempting 4 shots total for the night. The missed shots were on very good looks where two of the jump shots spun in and out but simply wouldn’t stay down in the basket. In his previous outing, Hield recorded just 6 minutes of action down from his average of almost 20 minutes per game. The return of Jrue Holiday has given Head Coach Alvin Gentry more offensive weapons and once Holiday returns to the starting lineup, we could see an improvement in Buddy’s minutes.

The Charlotte Hornets had control of the game for at least 3 1/2 quarters extending their lead by as many as 14 points but the Pelicans never gave up. They fought back over and over, cutting the lead down to 7 only to see the Hornets score in spurts to extend the lead back to double digits. The Pelicans eventually outscored the Hornets 34-23 to send the game into overtime behind stellar play from Davis and his supporting backcourt which definitely affected Buddy’s playing time.

Anthony Davis was dominant once again scoring 38 points while collecting 16 rebounds and blocking 3 shots. He shot over 55% from the field and also hit 2-5 from 3 point range. The backcourt trio including Jrue Holiday, Tim Frazier and Langston Galloway provided much needed support to Davis especially in the second half. Holiday was a key piece as he scored 22 points but most importantly dished out 9 assists. Tim Frazier recorded 17 points and 8 assists while Galloway was critical down the stretch hitting 54.5% of his 3 point attempts (6-11) to score 23 points while collecting 7 rebounds and dish out 3 assists.

For the Charlotte Hornets, the game was within reach as they recorded six players in double digits but simply coudl not hit key shots down the stretch shooting only 41.2% from the field. Kemba Walker led all scores on the Hornets with 25 points while collecting 7 rebounds and 5 assists while Marco Belinelli scored 22 points, collected 10 rebounds and dished out 5 assists. Belinelli shot a blistering 77.8% from the 3 point line hitting 7 out of 9 attempts and helped to extend the Hornets lead early.

At the end of regulation, both teams were tied at 108-108 and marked the third overtime game for the season for the Pelicans. In the overtime session, the Pelicans outscored the Hornets 13-8 with Anthony Davis scoring on several possessions with the shot clock running down. This marks the eight game of the season which the Pelicans were within 3 points with 3 minutes or less remaining. Finally, they won an overtime game after losing the previous two including a one point loss to the Phoenix Suns.  Final score:  Pelicans 121- Hornets 116 in overtime.

The Pelicans backcourt is shaping up to be viable offensive threats for the team and hopefully when Buddy Hield gets on track, this could be a tandem which could help the team offensively deep into the playoffs.
