Buddy Hield Atlanta Hawks Highlights featured a dominant performance by the New Orleans Pelicans over the Atlanta Hawks. It ended the way it began, with a double digit lead by the Pelicans who extended it as many as 37 points in the second half. The Hawks tried on multiple occasions to mount a comeback but could get no closer than 20 points. Nevertheless, disaster struck early as Anthony Davis tumbled into the Philips Arena stands while diving for a loose ball in the first quarter. Panic immediately struck the Pelicans, as Davis checked out of the game with 2:44 left in the period and went to the locker room for medical treatment. Davis would later return in the 4th quarter after x-ray results were negative revealing that he suffered a bruise above his right kneecap. Fortunately, the Pelicans were able to sustain the lead and hold off the Hawks late attempts at a comeback. He ended the game with 13 points and 3 blocks.
Tim Frazier led all scorers with 21 points, while collecting 5 rebounds and dishing out a career best 14 assists. Frazier has been consistent in his role filling in for Jrue Holiday while he was out during the start of the season. Holiday came off the bench with another solid performance of 15 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and a block and has drastically improved the offensive consistency for the Pelicans. The Pelicans finished strong with six players in double digits while Dante Cunningham finished a point shy with 9 points and 5 rebounds.
Despite a 30 point lead, Buddy Hield checked in with 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter with the Pelicans sporting a 90-62 lead. We noticed Anthony Brown, the recently signed player from the NBA Development League checked in ahead of Buddy Hield in the lineup rotation. Nevertheless, Hield played 2 series and was immediately pulled back to the bench by Head Coach Alvin Gentry after Hield committed a lapse on defense allowing a Hawks player to hit a wide open jumper off a switch with Anthony Davis. In total, Buddy Hield saw eight minutes of action and attempted just two shots, both misses from the perimeter checking back in during extensive garbage time in the 4th quarter with under 3 minutes left in the game.
Final score: Pelicans 112 – Hawks 94.
